Summary of Position:

Contribute to the Underwriting Team to achieve profitable growth goals in conjunction with company financial plan. Provide technical underwriting support for assigned agencies and make sound underwriting decisions on referred and/or more complex accounts in compliance with company guidelines. Perform ongoing renewal underwriting.

Essential Duties & Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify, verify and process regular accounts, commissions (sliding scale or contingent), commutations, cash losses, profit & loss calculations as well as year-end and treaty-end related documents against treaty terms and contractual conditions.
  • Prepare and book monthly entries related to the treaties.
  • Be familiar with the company strategic portfolio optimization strategies and assist in their implementation, including assisting the CRO in the catastrophe management process.
  • Assist with agency management including monitoring of loss ratio, agency re-underwriting, or agency rehabilitation programs.
  • Actively initiate, participate and communicate system and product enhancements.
  • Maintain customer service focus. Keeps abreast of industry trends and activities.
  • Comply with regulatory and industry standards, including any agency audit and compliance needs.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Agency Profile System and Policy Issuance System in order to be a key point of contact for any training matters associated with either system.
  • Report key underwriting metrics to continually update the underwriting manager and CRO of agency submission trends.
  • Report any and all adverse agency/producer/CSR (Customer Service Representative) relationships.

Qualifications

  • CSR 4-40 or 2-20 insurance license
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years recent experience in P&C industry, preferably in customer service, underwriting and/or call center environment.
  • Effectively clarifies and resolves underwriting issues with agents, team members and customers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Create and manage effective working relationships with business partners, co-workers and agents to reach desired business results.
  • Able to adapt to changing business needs and is focused on highest priorities first.
  • Strong organizational and time management ability.
  • Able to develop and maintain a positive attitude with a drive for results which are linked to company objectives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
