Summary of Position:

Lighthouse Property Insurance Corporation is looking for someone who thrives in the US and international environment that fosters collaboration with various stakeholders in different locations.In this role as a Treaty Accountant (property primarily), you will manage and account for numerous reinsurance treaties (proportional (quota share), excess of loss, and facultative). Reporting to the Controller, you will ensure the efficient execution of the reinsurance accounting responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify, verify and process regular accounts, commissions (sliding scale or contingent), commutations, cash losses, profit & loss calculations as well as year-end and treaty-end related documents against treaty terms and contractual conditions.
  • Prepare and book monthly entries related to the treaties.
  • Monitor and manage open balances, identify incoming/outgoing payments and initiate the same as necessary.
  • Manage treaties which include processing and preparing accounts as well as analyzing statistics, including analysis of ceded premium and loss reserves and related statistical analysis.
  • Prepare reinsurance related schedules in the annual statements (like Schedule F) and the computation of required collateral for Letter of Credit requests and handle the requests.
  • Monitor and manage reinsurer statements including confirmation letters to reinsurers as well as active communication with the company broker and reinsurers.
  • Cooperate, coordinate, and exchange of information with Claims, Accounting, Underwriting and other internal functional areas.
  • Perform periodic checks of operational controls and assuring the accuracy of quarterly closing tasks as assigned.
  • Electronic management and archiving of accounting relevant documents as required.
  • Assist in various projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Preferably 2-5 years of experience in reinsurance/insurance accounting with a good general reinsurance/insurance knowledge.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a business related major. Industry designations a plus (like ARe, AINS, AIAF, CPCU, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables & other advanced functions), Word, PowerPoint.
  • Detailed oriented and strong problem solver with analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated positive attitude and works well in a team environment.
  • Proficient in English, both verbal and written. Proficiency in any additional language is a plus.
